Hi all, so I somehow managed to finish a challenge for once. I’m highkey surprised, but I actually did it! I’m so proud of me.
I managed to read five books in a row, and it was epic. I really enjoyed this event, and I met some really awesome people along the way! I also got to read about a bunch of other books I had never heard of before, and I had a lot of fun! My tbr got even longer…
So I read:
It was a little slow, but good overall! Here’s the review.
It was full of really awesome short stories about Filipinos, at home and abroad; highly recommended for everyone! Here’s the review. (ownvoices book)
Great bisexual rep, and very relatable to many Asian Americans; also, Asian male love interest alert! Plus you can’t go wrong with music~ Review can be found here! (This is an ownvoices book, except I’m not sure if the writer is bisexual or not)
The only book that wasn’t on my sign-up post, but I’m a huge fan of Renee Ahdieh and I couldn’t say no! Great story about challenging gender norms during historical Japan! Review is here!
A coming-of-age graphic novel navigating love, life, and grief. Great visuals to go with a great story Review is here!
Thank you once again to Shenwei, and the other creators of this event! I had a lot of fun meeting and interacting with other readers, and if the even happens again next year, I’ll definitely be participating again!
Also, a big thank you to the creators of these book for bringing joy into my life, and I’ll continue to read and support Asian American literature!
Also, on another note. This event was created to celebrate Asian American Heritage month, but I just want to put out there that this month was Asian American and Pacific Islanders Heritage month, and someone got upset with me for not including that in my blog posts.
It was never my attention to erase Pacific Islander identity, and I’m sorry if this hurt anyone else’s feelings. So, happy AAPI Heritage month everyone, and thanks for reading!
