Dimple Shah has it all figured out. With graduation behind her, she’s more than ready for a break from her family, from Mamma’s inexplicable obsession with her finding the “Ideal Indian Husband.” Ugh. Dimple knows they must respect her principles on some level, though. If they truly believed she needed a husband right now, they wouldn’t have paid for her to attend a summer program for aspiring web developers…right?

Rishi Patel is a hopeless romantic. So when his parents tell him that his future wife will be attending the same summer program as him—wherein he’ll have to woo her—he’s totally on board. Because as silly as it sounds to most people in his life, Rishi wants to be arranged, believes in the power of tradition, stability, and being a part of something much bigger than himself.

The Shahs and Patels didn’t mean to start turning the wheels on this “suggested arrangement” so early in their children’s lives, but when they noticed them both gravitate toward the same summer program, they figured, Why not?

Dimple and Rishi may think they have each other figured out. But when opposites clash, love works hard to prove itself in the most unexpected ways.

Hi all, OMG this is the cutest book in 2017!! I absolutely loved it! Dimple was so cute, Rishi was so cute, their relationship was. So. Cute. I see why it made the New York Times Bestseller’s list! So, without further ado, let’s get into the review~

Sixteen-year-old Starr Carter moves between two worlds: the poor neighborhood where she lives and the fancy suburban prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend, Khalil, at the hands of a police officer. Khalil was unarmed.

Soon afterward, Khalil’s death is a national headline. Some are calling him a thug, maybe even a drug dealer and a gangbanger. Starr’s best friend at school suggests he may have had it coming. When it becomes clear the police have little interest in investigating the incident, protesters take to the streets and Starr’s neighborhood becomes a war zone. What everyone wants to know is: What really went down that night? And the only person alive who can answer that is Starr.

But what Starr does—or does not—say could destroy her community. It could also endanger her life.

The Hate U Give is the debut novel of Angie Thomas, which topped the New York Times Best Seller list within two weeks of it’s release. It’s raw, real, and powerful. It 100% deserves the hype it’s been given. If you haven’t yet, go read it. It’s so important and relevant to current events happening in the USA today, and I think everyone needs to read it. Criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker has been offered wealth beyond his wildest dreams. But to claim it, he’ll have to pull off a seemingly impossible heist:

Break into the notorious Ice Court
(a military stronghold that has never been breached)

Retrieve a hostage
(who could unleash magical havoc on the world)

Survive long enough to collect his reward
(and spend it)

Kaz needs a crew desperate enough to take on this suicide mission and dangerous enough to get the job done – and he knows exactly who: six of the deadliest outcasts the city has to offer. Together, they just might be unstoppable – if they don’t kill each other first.

Hi all, I’m coming back at you with another book review! I finally read Six of Crows, yes I know I’m late to the party (don’t hurt me), and I actually enjoyed it! I was a little put off by the huge fanbase it has acquired, mostly because I tend to prefer less popular books. Action really is not my thing, but I feel like this had enough emotional turmoil to hold my interest. Continue reading “Book Review: Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo”

Book Reading Playlist – Wintersong

wintersong_inspired_playlist

Hey all, so I’ve decided to feature a book reading playlist inspired by a different book I read once a month! I’m just trying to broaden my blog content, and I thought this would be a good idea. This is an English blog, and I do mostly listen to Asian songs (Mando-pop, K-pop/rock, J-pop/rock, Phil-pop, etc.) but I’ll try to keep it to mostly English songs. Plus I think this will be a good way for me to find new songs too!

This month I’ve decided to make a playlist for Wintersong by S. Jae-Jones, because that’s pretty much all my life has been the last two weeks! So here are thirteen songs I’ve been loving which remind me of the book!

13.  Make Me (Cry) by Noah Cyrus ft. Labrinth Continue reading “Book Reading Playlist – Wintersong”

Blurb from Goodreads:

The life of a traveling merchant is a lonely one, a fact with which Kraft Lawrence is well acquainted. Wandering from town to town with just his horse, cart, and whatever wares have come his way, the peddler has pretty well settled into his routine-that is, until the night Lawrence finds a wolf goddess asleep in his cart. Taking the form of a fetching girl with wolf ears and a tail, Holo has wearied of tending to harvests in the countryside and strikes up a bargain with the merchant to lend him the cunning of “Holo the Wisewolf” to increase his profits in exchange for taking her along on his travels. What kind of businessman could turn down such an offer? Lawrence soon learns, though, that having an ancient goddess as a traveling companion can be a bit of a mixed blessing. Will this wolf girl turn out to be too wild to tame?

Hi guys, so I’m not going to lie, I originally watched the anime years ago; but I’ve always wondered what happened to Holo and Lawrence. I found out that the anime was based on a light novel, and not a manga, so I honestly didn’t think there was a English translation anywhere (and I didn’t bother to look, my bad). However, my friend, who is so nice, found this and got it for me! I finally get to find out what happened to our dear protagonists! St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger. . . .
Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

The 10th Edition comes with some extra stories! Which is why I bought it despite owning two copies of the first book already. . . As I have yet to review Vampire Academy on this blog, I’ll also have a brief overview of the actual book for those who haven’t read it yet; and then a review of the short stories at the end! The Jingle Bell Tag

the-jingle-bell-tag

Don’t lie, you totally started singing the song when you saw the title, right? Me too! Fun fact, when I was a tiny toddler, I couldn’t pronounce “jingle” or “bells.” So I used to sing “shingle nails.” Haha, no one lets me forget it either…

Anyway, today I am participating in the Jingle Bell Tag, created by Richard @ The Humpo Show! I originally saw this over on the Sassy Book Geek blog! So make sure you read Heather’s post too. She has some really fun answers!
